1. Watch Chapter 1 and beginning of Chapter 2 (up until they meet Curley) on film version of Of Mice and Men and take note of the following, to the best of your ability:
Identify and describe characters and their characterization: describe their physical characteristics, their personalities, their hopes and dreams, and anything else of note.
Identify and outline any important plot events (for chapter 1, exposition is the plot stage)
Identify any examples of possible foreshadowing.

2. (handout) Mice Study Guide: Look at excerpt from "To a Mouse". Do a "Notice and Focus" freewrite: First, paraphrase the poem. Then, what do you notice in this poem? What's it about? Discuss it. Discuss how it might relate to the book (why would Steinbeck choose his book title from this poem?).
